Promotion of GI-Certified Ceylon Cinnamon Products

A site inspection was conducted on 20 July 2026 at the Duty-Free Shopping Complex in the Departure Terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, in connection with the proposed establishment of an exhibition booth and sales outlet for the promotion of GI-certified Ceylon Cinnamon products.

The inspection was attended by the Director General of the Department of Cinnamon Development, representatives of the Ceylon Cinnamon Protected Geographical Indication (GI) Association, and officials of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited.

The proposed exhibition booth and sales outlet are intended to showcase and promote the unique identity, authenticity, and premium quality of GI-certified Ceylon Cinnamon to international travellers. This initiative is expected to strengthen the global recognition of the Ceylon Cinnamon Geographical Indication (GI) while expanding opportunities for value-added cinnamon products in international markets.

As part of this initiative, a series of promotional and marketing programmes will be implemented targeting foreign tourists, members of the diplomatic community, travel and tourism companies, and airline operators. These efforts are aimed at enhancing international awareness of GI-certified Ceylon Cinnamon and further strengthening Sri Lanka’s reputation as the exclusive producer of authentic Ceylon Cinnamon.

The head office of the Department of Cinnamon Development was established in Karandeniya, Galle district. Among the department’s first major projects is the Cinnamon Gate project in Pinnaduwa, Galle.
